Imagine if Fluker was the starter from the beginning.
Not to one up but imagine if Darkwa was the starter from the beginning
6th highest rate in the NFL.
Gettleman would be a fool not to sign him for three years.
Pretty interesting. I wouldn't have expected him to be so far up the list. Whether we draft an RB or not, Darkwa really won me over this year. I wasn't a believer, thought his sample size was too small.
We won all three games where Darkwa had 20 carries or more. Those were also the only games that saw more runs than passes, incidentally.
I like this stat. Just goes to show what a misstep it was to put McAdoo in charge of running our roster.
I dunno...he looked good at times last year, but how much of that was defenses defending against the pass because we were putrid? More than half the time defenses were daring us to run the ball
He’s an alright guy in a rotation with others, but i wouldn’t be terribly upset if he wasn’t back either.
He saw 8+ in the box on 44% of his carries. 6th most in the league.
Defending against our practice squad receivers on the field, daring us to run? Lol
44% of the time he ran against a stacked box. That's good for the 6th highest rate in the NFL. Dude is underated. The big knock against him is lack of 20+ yard runs but how are you supposed to do that when teams aren't afraid of your passing game
This. Darkwa is definitely a serviceable back but is no where near the one to help us get over the top.
This is the reason why I really like him. He will force the defenses to stuff the box, beefing Beckham open or else hell just feast.
The guy who just finished 10th in the league for YPC is someone you wouldn't care if he came back or not? He was arguably our best back.
What would that ypc be if he didn’t go off in the last game of the season
Gallman is a better option in my opinion, but if they were to draft Barkley I wouldn't be too opposed.
This is why I want a QB in the draft and not Barkley. I believe Darkwa and Gallman can be a pretty effective duo if we give them a good O line, which Gettleman has called the top priority.
Didn't Perkins end up with something similar the year before too?
4.1 yards per carry on 121 rushes compared to Darkwa's 4.4 on 171. I think it's worth noting that teams dared us to run last year as opposed to this year where teams dared us to pass, so it's reasonable to give Darkwa even more credit for his 4.4 yards per carry.
Well he had a much smaller sample size. He only got 1 start.
Alvin Kamara only had 3 starts. Starts means literally nothing for RBs.
Okay... the point I was trying to make with that statement is that he had a relatively small body of work his first year in the league. With that in mind, talking about starts or attempts is a semantic distinction in this case.
A lot of that had to do with us being behind and defenses playing prevent. Misleading stat
That is completely false. Darkwa saw stacked box on 44% of his carries, 6th highest rate in the NFL.
You literally just made that up.
What did he run against the other 56% of the time? What was the score at the time? We’re the opposing defenses still even playing starters? We were they coming with a pass blitz and Eli checked to a run?
What did he run against the other 56% of the time?
You claim to have watched him, you should know.
What was the score at the time? We’re the opposing defenses still even playing starters?
I'll explain it a different way: There were three games in 2017 we won. All three were the only three games where Darkwa had 20 or more carries. All three were also the only three games where we ran more than we threw, and none of these were games where we were ever up by so much that we ran the ball to control the clock, or games where the opposing teams pulled their starters. He saw a stacked box on 80.95% of his carries and earned a 5.6 ypc average vs. Broncos (win 1); on 50% of his carries and earned 3.7 ypc vs. KC (win 2); on 45% of his carries and earned 7.7 ypc vs. Washington (win 3).
None of those game scripts "had to do with us being behind and defenses playing prevent" (your exact words). I'm actually curious why you decided to make that up when it is completely false.
I doubt you have any idea if thats true though. How many of his carries were from three scores down? And how many yards?
You just made that up
I still think it was obvious Darkwa has a more NFL effective skillset and athletic profile than anyone else on our team and we should try and re-sign him for cheap.
I agree, it's inflated but I believe with the line blocking for him he can be a league average RB.
He already is above the league average at 4.4 ypc. 13th overall. With an improved line and healthy receivers to keep defenses from stacking the box, he would be firmly inside the top 10.
I truly don’t like raanan he’s a terrible analyst/writer
Still draft Barkley. Darkwa isn’t that good.
