Best era of the show.
Gold: 1989-95 (Channel 9, Billy West, funerals, paper view/home videos, fucking with everyone, Private Parts, Miss America)
Silver: 2006-2010 (Eric the Actor, SnR prank calls, Howard TV, Artie, porn stars/sibion, uncensored)
Bronze: 1996-2001 (Hank the Dwarf, Beetlejuice, Wack Pack get togethers, Private Parts movie, E show, great interviews, still fucking with everyone)
Copper: The rest
I love Billy, the Jokeman, and Jackie Puppet.
I'm gonna get a third lung installed so I can wheeeeeze more
Billy West = Sour Shoes with discipline and work ethic
And not being a socially awkward weirdo.
Billy West was one of if not The Best staffer(ish)
Sucks that howard didn't value him enough to be properly compensated
Wasn't that Chiusano's business, not Howard's?
rumor was they wanted Billy to sign a contract that made him liable for any FCC fines earned by him. So if Billy said anything offensive that got fined, he was on the hook to pay for it. The worst part was the language of the contract that detailed anything "scripted" (by someone else) but spoken by Billy was also included.
Chiusano asked for it and Howard agreed.
If true, that would have eliminated any Marge Schott impressions.
wow, no wonder. It wasn't Tom but Howard who wanted that deal. Tom was Howard's puppet.
That sounds hard to believe since I assume anything that got on the show got on with Howard's ok
Dumb question, is billy on the banned list or not considering he turned out successful and never really bad mouthed the show
Richard and JD interviewed him at a (horror film?) convention.
Artie actually asked if there was any animosity over Billy's departure based on his posturing during the interview
Howard played dumb. But he didn't leave any funds for him and stuck him w a shitty contract, or rumor has it. It was said that Jackie was the one to mention that he or his position wasn't really needed in the studio.
He was there one day, gone the next with little/no explanation.
You dont get back into the pool after its been peed in
Billy would never come back on the show. He doesn't need Hollywood Howie. He couldn't give two shits if he's banned.
Is Billy West the only HSS staffer to actually have a successful career after his departure?
Because he had real talent.
depends on what you consider a "career"....Jackie still plays comedy shows...John made a boatload of money on the tonight show....artie, as fucked up as he is, is still making money with a third book and CRASHING on HBO.
They are all still guys that used to be on The HSS. Billy is a real talent. Nobody cares now that he was on the show a million years ago. BTW Nobody cares about Jackie. Artie is almost dead and John is broke and unfunny.
Billy was doing voices before and still is so HS was just a good gig for him I'd say
Billy West would lose himself in that Jackie impression. Even looking at the Jackie puppet is enough to crack me up
"Oi vey! I'm down a tenth of a point!"
I could watch Billy West on mute and laugh at this.
First 5 years @ Sirius > 90's Stern all day.
Nah. Maybe if you're under 30 years old right now & didn't hear any of the 90s stuff when it happened.
Howard at 35-40 years old, still relatively young, experienced but not too old, married & still angry, famous but not too famous before the movie, etc, was the best Howard.
I agree with your point if we are talking about Howard himself, early-mid 90's Howard was the top Howard.
Late 90's/Early 2000's Howard turned into the "ring leader" version, less effort (from him personally) on content, BUT the staff really hit a groove in those years and the infighting was at its all time best.
Early 2000's HSS was the best, but I would agree that 90's Howard Stern was the best version of himself.
That's a fair point, really for me the best years are the last few years at KROQ and the first few years at Sirius. The show's "cast of characters" included Artie, Stuttering John, Richard and Sal, KC and the Howard TV guys.
Even Howard hated the last few years on terrestrial, hence the reason for leaving. Too many restrictions between 2004-2005.
He hated them for the restrictions, but i never really cared about uncensored content or risque bits. For me the show has always been about the interactions between the staff, and those years i feel was the staff at it's peak.
