It is too difficult a task to define the term ‘culture‘. That is, it include many perspectives and can be seen from many aspects. Musicians define it in a way. Psychologists have their own definition. The way people eat in each country is also considered culture. Edward B. Tylor said that “that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.”

“Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things,” Cristina De Rossi, an anthropologist at Barnet and Southgate College in London, told Live Science.

Now have a look at how Business dictionary.com defines the term ‘culture‘; Broadly, social heritage of a group (organized community or society). It is a pattern of responses discovered, developed, or invented during the group’s history of handling problems which arise from interactions among its members, and between them and their environment. These responses are considered the correct way to perceive, feel, think, and act, and are passed on to the new members through immersion and teaching. Culture determines what is acceptable or unacceptable, important or unimportant, right or wrong, workable or unworkable. It encompasses all learned and shared, explicit or tacit, assumptions, beliefs, knowledge, norms, and values, as well as attitudes, behavior, dress, and language.

Culture encompasses shared beliefs, values, morals which is usually derived from the religion of the region. Culture conflicts which exist between different cultures usually cause the death of many people, in Middle East in particular. As we all read on different news sites, Muslims in the Middle East fight each other all the time. We mostly think of them as terrorists; still; having visited the country Iran, you will definitely think not all of them are like that. Kind, friendly, hospitable people. Iranians believe the media is quite biased and they are not the people usually talked about on different channels and websites. In my opinion, they are right. To be politically powerful, politicians do everything. That is their priority! To get power, they lie, kill, do all the bad things. But what the thing media broadcasts is something in the politicians’ favor. That is called biased media. That is why in my article about “who you should trust” I did mention the point that double-check what you are told. It, too, is a culture. The culture of not trusting everybody and not accepting everything the first time must be created.

Now let’s see what culture is needed to be created and why.

  • Culture of hope

One of the most important factors of having a happy society is hope. Individuals usually struggle with what they want from life. That is, before being a hopeful person, one first needs to know what he desires to get. In order to do so, it is probably the best idea to imagine the best possible day you would like to have first. It can be done better if you write down what you want to have and review and revise it from time to time. To build a culture of hope, all people in society should be more sympathetic to the people around them by listening to their wants and desires and encouraging them to go for their goals and create and reinforce hope in their hearts. I personally believe that what you get is what you give. So give hope to people so as to be given the same hope.

I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death. Robert Fulghum

  • Culture of reading more

It is believed that the more people read, the more their culture will grow! It has been proved throughout the history that the countries in which people are engaged with reading books, they have had happier people, more successful economy, better dealing with others and generally a better life! It is interesting that some people believe some cruel governments don’t want their people to read more and know more as a result. They believe if people are educated and civilized ones, achieved by reading more, the governments won’t be able to rule people as easily as possible.

What we need to do is to pay more attention to school and create the reading culture from school time so that they will be motivated readers of tomorrow. Still, it should also be noted that adults, too should be encouraged to read more so that many things will change in society! Having read more, people will revise their beliefs automatically, people will behave each other more properly, eating habits will alter, and many more things that will lead us to have a better world!

By and large, if we want culture be improved and enhanced, people should be encouraged to read, read and read. How this can be achieved is something which can be covered in another article.

Life is hard, and a lot of people come home tired from work. If they’re gonna spend half an hour reading, they want some entertainment and a sense of achievement. So that’s what I give them. That’s all I’m trying to do. Is that really so wrong? James Patterson

  • Culture of working hard

When talking about hard work, the first country name coming to mind is Japan for me. An economy will never triumph until the culture of hard work and perseverance is created. Being persevering, one can make his dreams and hopes, we just talked about, come true. So, working hard and conscientiously is what a country needs to succeed.

Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. Gail Dever
